Edgar Soto Memorial Cycling Classic. June 13-15, 2008. Nashville , TN

Up to 500 professional and amateur bicycle racers will pedal into Nashville June 13-15 for the third annual Edgar Soto Memorial Cycling Classic. The event is designed to be one of the most exciting and spectator-friendly criterium racing experiences in the country.

Friday, June 13. Nashville Speedway Race Night 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

A unique time trial and race event at the “Old” Nashville Speedway (www.musiccitymotorplex.com) at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Please note that this location is not the Nashville Super speedway.

Saturday, June 14. Music City Criterium. Historic Second Avenue Noon to 8:45 p.m.

Located in the urban setting of Historic Second Avenue , the Music City Criterium is extremely spectator-friendly and exciting to watch. In the heart of Nashville 's historic district, riders will race through the streets of downtown Nashville at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour, crossing intersections and hugging tight corners on a challenging and highly technical course.

Saturday, June 14. Kiddie Criterium. Historic Second Avenue North 3:40 p.m.

Children ages 10 and younger are encouraged to participate in the Kiddie Criterium. No registration is required, and there is no fee to participate. Parents will fill out waivers at the race. Children are welcome to use training wheels. This race focuses on fun, not on winning. Parents are welcome to follow their child on the course during the race to ensure safety. Bike helmets are mandatory. All participants in the Kiddie Criterium will receive a goodie bag. 

Sunday, June 15. Maryland Farms Criterium. Brentwood , TN 8 a.m.to 4 p.m.

Riders will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Maryland Farms on a wide-open course that is fast but not highly technical. Race headquarters will be the Maryland Farms YMCA. Parking will be available all around the course.

The classic is named in honor of Edgar Soto, a cyclist who was killed while riding his bike in the Nashville area in 2003. The event is dedicated to promoting greater awareness about sharing the road and making it safer for cyclists and pedestrians.
